Attention: durgol cleaning tablets have no descaling effect. For this purpose we recommend the durgol swiss espresso special descaler, because when it comes to maintaining your coffee machine, descaling is just as important as cleaning and degreasing.

Consult the instructions from your machine’s manufacturer.
- Ensure the pre-ground coffee compartment is empty before cleaning.
- Place a durgol cleaning tablet in the pre-ground coffee compartment and place a cup under the coffee spout.
Fill the water tank with tap water, select the option for pre-ground coffee and start the program. When about half a cup of water has come out of the spout, turn off the machine for approx. five minutes to let the solution soak. Then turn the machine back on and finish the cycle. - Repeat the process at least three times without adding a tablet until the water in the cup is clear.
- Remove the brewing unit and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Before using the machine, carry out the pre-ground coffee program twice without adding any grounds and throw the contents of the cup away.
- To clean the drip tray, place a tablet in the tray and fill it 2/3 full with hot water. Leave the cleaning solution to soak for approx. 30 minutes and then rinse the drip tray thoroughly.
- Your machine is now free of coffee residue and ready to make your next cup of coffee.
- Place a durgol cleaning tablet in a cup, fill the cup with hot water and wait until the tablet has completely dissolved.
- Remove the brewing unit and clean the filter and the outlet channel with the pre-prepared cleaning solution. A soft sponge or small brush are best for this. Leave the solution to soak for at least five minutes.
- Repeat the process with the remaining solution at least three times to remove any major dirt.
- Rinse the brewing unit thoroughly with clean water and then put back in place.
- To clean the drip tray, follow the instruc- tions above.
- Turn the machine off and leave to cool before cleaning.
- Place a durgol cleaning tablet in an appropriate container, fill the container with hot water and wait until the tablet has completely dissolved.
- Place the front part of the portafilter and all the filter components in the cleaning solution. Leave to soak for approx. 30 minutes.
- Rinse all the components thoroughly with clean water and put the portafilter back in place.
- Before using the machine again as normal, carry out the usual program without adding coffee grounds and throw away the result.
- Tip: use the same method to clean the filters from filter coffee machines. If the filter doesn’t fit into a container, it can be cleaned with the cleaning solution and a sponge. Repeat this process with the same solution 2–3 times. Then rinse well as described.
- Place a durgol cleaning tablet in a cup, fill the cup with hot water and stir until the tablet has dissolved.
- Pour the solution into the empty water tank and place a cup under the coffee spout.
- Start a program. When about half a cup of the solution has come out of the spout, turn off the machine for approx. five minutes to let the solution soak.
- Turn the machine back on and let the rest of the solution run through.
- Then fill the tank with around half a litre of clean water and let this flow through the machine until clean water is coming out of the spout.
Cleaning the coffee jug of the filter machine:
- Fill the jug with hot water, dissolve a cleaning tablet in it and leave to soak. Then rinse thoroughly with clear water.
Cleaning the filter group of the filter machine
- Remove the filter group. Fill a large container with hot water and dissolve a cleaning tablet in it.
- Place the filter group in the cleaning solution and leave to soak for approx. 30 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- If the filter group is too large to place in a container, the filter group can alternatively be cleaned with the cleaning solution and a sponge. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times with the available cleaning solution. Rinse the filter group well with clear water.
- Place the durgol cleaning tablet in the vacuum flask or coffee pot, fill it 2/3 full with hot water and leave to soak for approx. 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
- Tip: use the same method for coffee pots from filter coffee machines

Frequently asked questions
A descaler removes limescale from the water-bearing components (mainly in the heating system) and ensures hygienic cleaning. Regular and thorough descaling prevents blockages and the accumulation of bacteria. A cleaner removes coffee oils, coffee fats and coffee powder residues in the brewing unit up to the coffee outlet. Regular cleaning is important to prevent bacteria from accumulating in the brewing unit. This is because oils, fats and coffee residues (polysaccharides), together with heat and moisture, are an ideal breeding ground. Both regular descaling and cleaning are essential components of coffee machine maintenance.
The cleaning or degreasing of coffee fats and oils is done with alkaline ingredients (caustic soda etc.). The removal of limescale, on the other hand, requires acidic ingredients. These two very different ingredients are not compatible in their chemical properties to be integrated in only one product and at the same time ensure the best possible cleaning or descaling performance for coffee machines. Therefore, we developed specific products for descaling and for cleaning respectively.
Hygienic reasons: Deposits of coffee oils and fats - just like limescale deposits - can promote the growth of harmful bacteria. Coffee quality and taste: Coffee enjoyment is also impaired if the coffee flows through a machine contaminated with oils and fats as well as powder residues. Performance and service life: Ultimately, coffee residues also have a negative impact on the performance and service life of the coffee machine.
The durgol cleaning tablets have a particularly environmentally friendly formula. It is certified by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) as "readily biodegradable" and has a biodegradability of over 99.5 % after just 18 days. The classification "readily biodegradable" is the highest level of biodegradation that can be achieved. The product is also very economical. The strong efficacy enables a particularly economical and environmentally friendly dosage and thus leads to a significantly better environmental balance in the consumption of cleaning agents and packaging.
durgol products have a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture.
